Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert is the brainchild behind this innovative Canadian fashion brand. The designer describes his aesthetics as “gothic” & “exotic.” It is also about contrasts – darkness and light, shadow and colour. The collections are designed with complete looks and fantastic storytelling.
What you need to know about Markantoine x Icône par Simons
The 25 piece capsule collection has a broad appeal ranging from uber-cool streetwear to edgy dressed-up. The unisex sweatshirts and T-shirts have exotic prints and the motocross-inspired jeans come with innovative cuts. There is even an oversized denim jacket with long vegan leather fringes that comes with a matching skirt. On the dressier end, there is a sexy one-shoulder ruched maxi dress to colourful chic separates. We love the definitive utility feel with drawstrings and accent zips. TRRYWRLD’s Top Five Looks from Markantoine x Icône par Simons
Here are five of our favourites from the Markantoine x Icône collection. We are so thrilled this amazing Canadian streetwear brand is showcasing their fashion beyond the French Canadian market. This shortlist has not been easy as we loved so many of the designs. We found three looks we both love plus two different personal favourites.
1. Tricolour Biker Jean
This high-waisted jean is just fresh. Just when we thought the moto/biker look was over, this tricolour number proves us wrong. The innovative cut with fabric play creates such an exciting silhouette. We adore the attention to details – the contrasting flap over the front zipper, the reflective bands, contrasting back pockets and embroidered signature. The jean is 100% cotton denim, including the black panels. Dress it up or dress it down, you decide.
2. Sequin Tulle Hoodie & Jogger
We love the unexpected glamour of this street-style look. The layering of tulle with sequin over athletic wear has such an ethereal effect. It gets more magical when the purple sequin catches the light and moves to the rhythm of the wearer. The styling of the jogger with heels is what got our attention. What a throwback to the ’80s and harem pant chic!
3. Quartz Embroidered-Symbol Shirt and Skirt

First off, we love the fabric and the print. The sharp colour contrast of vibrant and dark is more than on-point with the dark florals trend for Fall 2019. As for this look, the oversized open lapel shirt is styled half-tucked into the over-the-knee skirt with a front slit. There is also an adjustable toggle drawcord for a ruched look on the skirt. The two pieces can be easily worn separately. Vibrant and playful, what more does a girl want?!
4. Terry Wong’s Pick: Fine Chalk Stripe Jacket and Pant
“I especially love the flattering proportions and subtle details of the Markantoine x Icône Fine Chalk Stripe Suit. The longer length and cut of the double breasted jacket give any wearer the illusion of a longer and leaner torso. And pairing the jacket with the matching slim fitting tapered pants is a no brainer. The zippered pocket on the sleeve of the jacket combined with the shape of the flap pockets give it a modern flair with street style edge. Plus, the snap flap closure on the pants’ zipper is the perfect fashion forward design accent. Fitted suiting is going to be a hot trend in the fall and this suit is everything — I’m here for all of it!”

5. My Pick: Ultra Long Sleeve Bodysuit
“I adore this pink one-shoulder bodysuit for the asymmetrical cut and the pop of colour. It is a statement piece that is really easy to wear. Additionally, at the back of this high neck jersey piece, there is a black accent zip with a neon rubber pull tab. What a fantastic twist! On a more practical side, the piece layers under everything easily. It will definitely Instagram well no matter how you style it. This should be every fashionista’s must-have in her wardrobe for Fall 2019. The gorgeous pink
is also an excellent continuation of fashion’s love story with neon. As an FYI, this bodysuit does come in black. But if you are considering that, I suggest you go for the similar styled black one-shoulder maxi dress instead. It is even more dramatic with ruching on the bottom! That dress is my close second choice, but it only comes in black. I am currently micro-managing adding more black to my closet this season.”
