We’ve been Kylie fans since the actress-turned-pop-star debuted with her smash hit, The Locomotion. The song was produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman (SAW) and Kylie would go on to become one of the most successful artists on the production team’s roster. Our hearts were instantly stolen by the song’s infectious pop sound and by her cute and charming persona.
The Locomotion
Together, Kylie and SAW would ultimately release some of the ‘80s and ‘90s’ most iconic pop songs. From I Should Be So Lucky and Hand on Your Heart to Better the Devil You Know and Give Me Just a Little More Time, Kylie released hit after hit and quickly became a superstar. Back in the day, her music was the friend who was always there for us and her songs always brightened our darkest days. She saw us in her lyrics and she sang ALL of our feelings.
Better the Devil You Know
After the success of her first four albums, Kylie inevitably parted ways with SAW and moved on to work with different producers, writers and artists. She would release a couple of dance albums and evolve as an artist. But it was her return to pop music that would ultimately make her a household name with the release of her international hit, Can’t Get You Out of My Head. It’s her most successful single to date, selling 5 million copies worldwide and reaching number one in over forty countries.
Can’t Get You Out of My Head
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la… How could you not instantly love that hook?! It was played everywhere, and everyone has a memory attached to this song. Ours is watching the music video for the first time. We remember falling in love with the video’s style and loving how Kylie effortlessly made pop music look and feel so chic and so sexy. Can’t Get You Out of My Head was definitely a breath of fresh pop music air in a post 9/11 world.
Kylie has released a total of fourteen studio albums and a multitude of hit singles. Her songs are ones you instantly recognize and can’t stop singing after you hear them. She also recently released a new greatest hits compilation, Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection. She’s currently touring in the UK to support the album. And although we’ve seen her in concert before, we’re still DYING to see her perform live again!
But alas, we should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky to see her in person again. Unfortunately, we can’t be with our favourite diva from Down Under this summer, but we’re not letting that dampen our spirits. We’ve created the perfect Kylie playlist with all of our favourites and TRUST, we’ll be dancing to Kylie all summer long!
